Race comment
The $100,000 BEAUTIDE for the three and four-year-old pacers brings together an extremely even field with great depth and shapes as the hardest races to assess, particularly from a speed-map perspective, with several runners capable of settling in forward positions after the first 400 metres. The talented three-year-olds LIKEYOUFORAREASON (1) and ALWAYS BETTOR (2) look to have as much ability as any of the four-year-olds engaged, although this will be their first genuine test at this level. There appears to be speed not only early but throughout the contest. BARBARY TALES (4) has drawn the best of the mares and should be able to find a prominent position on speed. However, THE BRIDE (5) is expected to come out aggressively in an attempt to find the pegs, although that may prove difficult with the runners drawn inside all possessing good gate speed. CARMEN EMJAY (7) was excellent in the four-year-old mares feature last week but has drawn awkwardly. With the field reduced to 10 runners after the emergencies come out, she may be able to finish over the top of them if the tempo is genuine. OKANUI BEACH (8) again draws the inside of the back row in a feature race, following out arguably the most talented runner in the field on the pole. It will be interesting to see whether Abbey Turnbull elects to kick through early and rely on luck, or restrain and make one late run as she did in the Raider Stakes, where she made excellent ground but could not reel in the winner, who enjoyed the better run on speed. HUNGRY HIPPO (9) enjoyed the perfect trip when winning both the heat and final of the Raider Stakes but now draws awkwardly and will require genuine tempo and the right trail to be finishing strongly. PREPARATION (10) did all the work before tiring the last 50m into 3rd position and is another who would appreciate a fast-run race, making him a value hope to be charging home late in what shapes as a fascinating contest. The other two runners, SMOOTH REASON (6) and UNMATCHED (10), have both been racing well and can fill the minor placings if the race is run to suit and they enjoy the right runs in transit. Race comment
The $100,000 BEAUTIDE for the three and four-year-old pacers brings together an extremely even field with great depth and shapes as the hardest races to assess, particularly from a speed-map perspective, with several runners capable of settling in forward positions after the first 400 metres. The talented three-year-olds LIKEYOUFORAREASON (1) and ALWAYS BETTOR (2) look to have as much ability as any of the four-year-olds engaged, although this will be their first genuine test at this level. There appears to be speed not only early but throughout the contest. BARBARY TALES (4) has drawn the best of the mares and should be able to find a prominent position on speed. However, THE BRIDE (5) is expected to come out aggressively in an attempt to find the pegs, although that may prove difficult with the runners drawn inside all possessing good gate speed. CARMEN EMJAY (7) was excellent in the four-year-old mares feature last week but has drawn awkwardly. With the field reduced to 10 runners after the emergencies come out, she may be able to finish over the top of them if the tempo is genuine. OKANUI BEACH (8) again draws the inside of the back row in a feature race, following out arguably the most talented runner in the field on the pole. It will be interesting to see whether Abbey Turnbull elects to kick through early and rely on luck, or restrain and make one late run as she did in the Raider Stakes, where she made excellent ground but could not reel in the winner, who enjoyed the better run on speed. HUNGRY HIPPO (9) enjoyed the perfect trip when winning both the heat and final of the Raider Stakes but now draws awkwardly and will require genuine tempo and the right trail to be finishing strongly. PREPARATION (10) did all the work before tiring the last 50m into 3rd position and is another who would appreciate a fast-run race, making him a value hope to be charging home late in what shapes as a fascinating contest. The other two runners, SMOOTH REASON (6) and UNMATCHED (10), have both been racing well and can fill the minor placings if the race is run to suit and they enjoy the right runs in transit. Race comment
The $100,000 BEAUTIDE for the three and four-year-old pacers brings together an extremely even field with great depth and shapes as the hardest races to assess, particularly from a speed-map perspective, with several runners capable of settling in forward positions after the first 400 metres. The talented three-year-olds LIKEYOUFORAREASON (1) and ALWAYS BETTOR (2) look to have as much ability as any of the four-year-olds engaged, although this will be their first genuine test at this level. There appears to be speed not only early but throughout the contest. BARBARY TALES (4) has drawn the best of the mares and should be able to find a prominent position on speed. However, THE BRIDE (5) is expected to come out aggressively in an attempt to find the pegs, although that may prove difficult with the runners drawn inside all possessing good gate speed. CARMEN EMJAY (7) was excellent in the four-year-old mares feature last week but has drawn awkwardly. With the field reduced to 10 runners after the emergencies come out, she may be able to finish over the top of them if the tempo is genuine. OKANUI BEACH (8) again draws the inside of the back row in a feature race, following out arguably the most talented runner in the field on the pole. It will be interesting to see whether Abbey Turnbull elects to kick through early and rely on luck, or restrain and make one late run as she did in the Raider Stakes, where she made excellent ground but could not reel in the winner, who enjoyed the better run on speed. HUNGRY HIPPO (9) enjoyed the perfect trip when winning both the heat and final of the Raider Stakes but now draws awkwardly and will require genuine tempo and the right trail to be finishing strongly. PREPARATION (10) did all the work before tiring the last 50m into 3rd position and is another who would appreciate a fast-run race, making him a value hope to be charging home late in what shapes as a fascinating contest. The other two runners, SMOOTH REASON (6) and UNMATCHED (10), have both been racing well and can fill the minor placings if the race is run to suit and they enjoy the right runs in transit. Race comment
The $100,000 BEAUTIDE for the three and four-year-old pacers brings together an extremely even field with great depth and shapes as the hardest races to assess, particularly from a speed-map perspective, with several runners capable of settling in forward positions after the first 400 metres. The talented three-year-olds LIKEYOUFORAREASON (1) and ALWAYS BETTOR (2) look to have as much ability as any of the four-year-olds engaged, although this will be their first genuine test at this level. There appears to be speed not only early but throughout the contest. BARBARY TALES (4) has drawn the best of the mares and should be able to find a prominent position on speed. However, THE BRIDE (5) is expected to come out aggressively in an attempt to find the pegs, although that may prove difficult with the runners drawn inside all possessing good gate speed. CARMEN EMJAY (7) was excellent in the four-year-old mares feature last week but has drawn awkwardly. With the field reduced to 10 runners after the emergencies come out, she may be able to finish over the top of them if the tempo is genuine. OKANUI BEACH (8) again draws the inside of the back row in a feature race, following out arguably the most talented runner in the field on the pole. It will be interesting to see whether Abbey Turnbull elects to kick through early and rely on luck, or restrain and make one late run as she did in the Raider Stakes, where she made excellent ground but could not reel in the winner, who enjoyed the better run on speed. HUNGRY HIPPO (9) enjoyed the perfect trip when winning both the heat and final of the Raider Stakes but now draws awkwardly and will require genuine tempo and the right trail to be finishing strongly. PREPARATION (10) did all the work before tiring the last 50m into 3rd position and is another who would appreciate a fast-run race, making him a value hope to be charging home late in what shapes as a fascinating contest. The other two runners, SMOOTH REASON (6) and UNMATCHED (10), have both been racing well and can fill the minor placings if the race is run to suit and they enjoy the right runs in transit.
