OVERVIEW: VINTAGE CHEDDAR (9) is, it seems, just one of those horses. Despite failing to set the world on fire with any of his four wins from four starts on Australian soil, he’s always found a way. Frighteningly, given Andy Gath’s extensive and expansive record of rectifying quirks, there’s every hope that this cheese will just keep on getting better. Aside from his marginal talent edge, one key factor further plays into the hooves if VINTAGE CHEDDAR (9) tonight. And that factor is a front line full of go-back runners. Sure, two or perhaps three front-rowers will enjoy an early dip, but ultimately Kate Gath should land midfield after the start, which will make her next move forward so much easier. Should VINTAGE CHEDDAR (9) find himself in a position to control tonight’s fast-class contest within 600m, it’s incredibly tough to see how he will be beaten. If not, however – and depending on which alternate scenario plays out – there’s at least four threats here for your Quad consideration. If they choose to run serious time and the fave is either forced to come with one run or planted three wide the trip, then BULLETPROOF BOY (11) is clearly his biggest danger. Last month, VINTAGE CHEDDAR (9) and BULLETPROOF BOY (11) clashed twice with an aggregate margin of under 4m separating them from those battles. All it will take is the rub of the green for Scotty Ewen’s stable hero to turn the tables here. Alternately, if HULI NIEN (5) can lead as expected, and the aforementioned big guns pay him less respect than required, he can launch a fair way out and simply keep his margin. Other major players here are LETSROCKLETSROLL (4) who destroyed the timepiece at this course last weekend, and BETTOR BE THE BOMB (10) who should never be forgotten in a free-for-all like this.
