OVERVIEW: Increasingly, it seems, truth is being tempered by the need to be polite. In that vein, let’s just say there’s some seemingly clear class disparities separating the half-dozen combatants vying for tonight’s Shakamaker Classic. It’s unlikely, though slightly unfair, that this analyst won’t receive any Easter bonus for portending that PETRACCA (5) looks a moral of the highest order here. Prior to his debut, the juvenile named after Melbourne’s freakishly gifted footballer trialled in a manner that announced him as a star. He followed that qualifier with an equally dominant Gold Crown heat success at Bathurst before basic mathematics saw him beaten in the final. Tonight, Emma Stewart’s latest rockstar will rifle to the front and likely win by as far as Nathan Jack decides. Just who finishes immediately behind him isn’t so easy to answer. Based on his excellent debut triumph MISTER HUNTER (6) narrowly gets the nod but should you play exotics CAPTAIN FOXTROT (3) – who also campaigned in Bathurst – deserves to join him in silver medal calculations. From what we’ve seen at the races and trials, the only other hope of filling a podium position outside that trio is SLICE OF CHEDDAR (2) who went at least the equal of CAPTAIN FOXTROT (3) on debut but hasn’t been seen ever since.
