RACE COMMENT
OVERVIEW: AVANT GUARD (9) looks well suited here based on the quality opposition he’s faced most of this season in town. Whilst he doesn’t boast an amazing standing start record, he was good in the Ararat Cup under similar conditions narrowly going down and can go one better. MITCHELL WRAP (5) also will enjoy this opposition, and he has a strong standing start record. He can sharply improve on his numerical form. THE DARK THUNDER (4) has been a revelation this season chasing his third consecutive country cup, although this does present as another challenge. MAESTRO (8) is always thereabouts in these cup races and is normally reliable; he just hasn’t won for a while.
