RACE COMMENT
OVERVIEW: What a great field the club has drawn for the 40th running of the Birchip Pacing Cup, where there looks a stack of speed off the front line with the keen-going MARTYR (2) and fast beginners MERRYWOOD PAUL (5) and ROCK PHONE (6) likely to get involved early. For that reason, I’m confident the back row runners can come to the fore here and I’m siding with the Emma Stewart runner UNIQUELY IDEAL (8). She’s no superstar, but a classy mare who is well fancied in markets for the Running of the Bulls, where she is emergency. She looks a great chance here based off her impressive win at Kilmore last time out when she sat parked and was too good for a handy field in what was a dash home. SHADOW CELT (9) is flying at the moment for Tim McGuigan and ran a brave race for second in last weekend’s Boort Pacing Cup following some good efforts at Melton, MADIGAN (10) just missed in a photo when wide for the last lap in the Ararat Pacing Cup last Friday, while stablemate ROCK PHONE (6) has blistering gate speed and would be some chance first-up if he was able to get to the top.
