RACE COMMENT
OVERVIEW: RONNIE THE HAMMER (4) is a quality performer, third up here for Jess Tubbs. He should be nearing peak fitness now. James Herbertson takes the drive. Both runs this campaign have been from back row draws. He has gate speed and should be able to find a forward position. JACCKA CONNOR (8) was brilliant on Saturday night at Melton, sustaining a long run without cover and only getting beaten late. He’s a horse who usually needs luck, but he made his own last start and was eye-catching. It’s an awkward barrier, but he’s in form. LILSTREPO (7) has been outstanding since joining the Alex Ashwood stable, only missing a place once in her last 16 starts, where she finished fourth. She’s had nine wins since October and is flying. INTERPRETATION (6) is another mare in great form, winning five of her last eight. She is versatile and can make her own luck. Race 2: OVERVIEW: MORRIS BROWN (7) is second up for Carson Millar, who has a small team but a great record with improving horses. First up, he had to do all the work at Ballarat, racing wide and in the breeze, and was only narrowly beaten. He will improve from that run. LORD VERDE (1) has won four of his last six. He’s good in front, has enough gate speed to hold a forward position and is full of confidence. It’s another step up here, but he looks well placed. DAVOLAS LEGACY (3) has the best sectional times in this race and has been racing consistently well. FINAL PROMISE (5) is second up this year. There’s plenty of respect for the Jess Tubbs–James Herbertson combination. It was hard to assess him first up as he was stuck on the fence at Ballarat, but he has ability. BACK: MORRIS BROWN (7) – 3.5 units (win) Race 3: OVERVIEW: MIDNITE MUSCLE (5) has won his last two after coming from behind the leader. The race map looks different here, with the front line appearing to have even gate speed he may map awkwardly. His sectional times are the best in this field and he’s full of confidence. AT THE DISTANCE (7) looked back to his best when racing clear to win at Cranbourne. He is a smart horse on his day. He will need luck from barrier seven but is one to follow when in form. STEADY DREAM (8) can get it wrong with her manners, but she does have ability. She did everything right last start from the same barrier, which is promising. BUSLIN BRODY (10) has been making mistakes recently and has the ODM barrier here. That may suit him, giving him time and space to settle early. If he brings his best, he is a first four chance. Race 4: OVERVIEW: BUMPER SERVICE (5) has good gate speed and is capable of mapping well. He’s race fit, experienced and finds a suitable race. I AM HARRO (10) is better than his numerical form suggests. The way he hit the line at Cobram two starts ago was brilliant. He’s still learning what racing is about but has ability. HEAVENS WISH (9) has had one start for a win after some solid trials. She will have improved from that first-up victory, although this is a harder contest. Jodi Quinlan is chasing her 500th career win. RAMBO SUFFARELL (8) is lightly raced and certainly has ability. She can get things wrong and settle too far back, so she needs to put it all together. Race 5: OVERVIEW: OUR BELLA LUCIA (8) has the best sectional times and is a nice mare, but she hasn’t won for a year. She can perform well with luck from the barrier. OUTA THE BLUE (3) has gate speed and should map well. JANIEBQUICK (10) doesn’t look great on numerical form but drops slightly in class here as the equal highest-rated horse in the race. She hit the line strongly last start at Ballarat. OUR MYSTERY BET (7) has been racing well but faces awkward barriers again. SELECTIONS: OUR BELLA LUCIA (8), OUTA THE BLUE (3), JANIEBQUICK (10), OUR MYSTERY BET (7) Race 6: OVERVIEW: MYSTIC MOTIVER (6) has had two starts for two strong seconds. She has ability and looks well placed in this maiden. She shouldn’t remain a maiden for long. IM THE REASON (3) improved last start when leading and only getting beaten late by smart, progressive types. He should map well again. NORMANS GIRL (8) has gone close to breaking through for her maiden win several times. Last start she did all the work at Maryborough and was beaten late in a photo finish. She’s unlucky to still be a maiden and again draws a tricky barrier. LIFE ONA HIGHWAY (2) needs to improve on his first-up performance, but the barrier suits and he comes from a strong stable. BACK: MYSTIC MOTIVER (6) – 3 units (win) Race 7: OVERVIEW: SHUDABOUGHTABOAT (4) looks the best horse in this field. He hasn’t been far away at his last three starts and has trialled well this year. His sectional times are significantly better. DULCIE MAUREEN (9) may not have strong numerical form, but her sectional times have been sound and she has a barrier to follow through into a good position. OPERTSER (5) doesn’t look great on paper but won a trial earlier this year at Bendigo. The James Herbertson engagement is a positive. SWEET FACE (2), at start 98, is looking to break through for a maiden win before his 100th run. He improved last start when third and has experience over many of his rivals. BACK: SHUDABOUGHTABOAT (4) – 3.5 units (win) Race 8: OVERVIEW: This is a tough race to end the meeting. ISOLATION (3) should be nearing peak fitness. He hit the line well last start at Ballarat in a fast-run race. There’s respect with James Herbertson taking the drive. SPORTS NARRATOR (7) has been racing well and has the best sectional times in the field. He will need to overcome the tricky barrier. SCHERGER THAT (2) has a handy draw, is second up and can race tough if required. IMAGINATION ORO (4) hasn’t been far away in recent runs and is always a good first four chance in a race like this. For all your harness form in one place go to goodform.thetrots.com.au  ** A betting unit is typically a percentage of the total bankroll or the amount of money you are willing to risk on a particular bet – for example 1 unit is 10% of your bankroll, therefore a $100 bankroll 1 unit equals $10 Chances are you’re about to lose. For free and confidential support call 1800 858 858 or visit The odds quoted on the fields page are a Goodform computer generated price based on a range of key form factors and are not necessarily the odds that may be offered by a licenced bookmaker.
