RACE COMMENT

  OVERVIEW: SPRINGFIELD RIVER (7) produced a powerful finishing burst when a big winner on debut. Considering the final half was recorded in 57.5 seconds, his effort was excellent and he is clearly the horse to beat again. LOIERO (6) is a first starter for trainer Ian Ward, which finished second behind the smart pacer Atua Magic at a Shepparton trial effort last week and he seemingly had something in reserve at the finish so he must be respected. ILLUMINATE ME (5) is a debutante for trainer Tyrone Abela, which has been performing well at the Bacchus Marsh trials so she is not without a chance.
