OVERVIEW: Life gets somewhat easier with this talent-laden 3YO affair, but maybe not by much. The Elephant in the room – and let’s be clear, he’s been an indoor Pachyderm for most of his short career – is blueblood gelding BEACH VILLA (6). The full brother of former phenom Poster Boy and half-sibling of Yankee Rockstar and Born To Rocknroll has carried the burden of an almighty boom from day one but failed to reach the heights of his brilliant relatives. If, somehow, he’s unlocked his genetic freak factor following an amazingly easy triumph over inferior opposition second-up from a break, he’s the one to beat. The fact remains; however, life things have gotten tough in the past, he’s been found wanting – and life will get tough tonight. That’s because in-form Group 1 placegetter BRUTALLY HANDSOME (3) looks very likely to lead, as he has in both runs this campaign, and if he does he won’t be handing over. The two performance tendered by BRUTALLY HANDSOME (3) so far this prep, have featured head-scratching elements. In both runs, he’s speared out, found a flat spot through the penultimate quarter of his contests, then rallied like a caged lion late. Whether he’s struggling with final bends or only switching on when he’s challenged by a rival is tough to determine. Importantly, however, is displaying a wonderful will for the fight and based on their relative profiles, if he digs deep and BEACH VILLA (6) doesn’t then BRUTALLY HANDSOME (3) prevails. As a result, he rates on top of BEACH VILLA (6) with Mark Thompson-trained pair MISSED THE TRUTH (4) and PAS GUARANTEE (7) the only other, minor knockout hopes. Throughout their careers it’s been difficult to determine which of those geldings is better, though hopefully we get a better idea of how to separate them this evening.
